WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

This qualification is intended for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of wines or those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines. You’ll gain knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. Through a combination of tasting and theory, you’ll explore the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence.

While completing WSET Level 1 Award in Wines prior to registering for WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is recommended, it is not a prerequisite.

  • WSET Level 2 can be completed in 6 weekly classes or a short, 3-day intensive.

    This course is designed to help you attain the following skills by the end of WSET Level 2:

    • Recognize the primary grape varieties cultivated globally and the different styles produced from them, including sparkling and fortified wine.

    • Interpret label information to comprehend a wine's quality and style.

    • Understand general wine cultivation and winemaking techniques.

    • Refine your tasting skills using WSET's Level 2 Systematic Approach to Wine Tasting (SAT).

    *Note: If you have strong foundational wine knowledge or actively work in the wine industry you do not need to take WSET Level 2 before enrolling in WSET Level 3.

  • To acquire this certification, a minimum of 29 hours of study time is required, which includes:

    • 17 hours of instruction time with a WSET course provider, either in a classroom or online.

    • 12 hours of self-study and review.

    WSET Level 2 can be completed in 6 weekly classes or a short, 3-day intensive.

  • Assessment: A 1 hour closed-book examination comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions
